Die Cut Vs. Kiss Cut

Die cutting and kiss cutting are two popular cutting techniques used to create custom parts, but many people don’t know what the difference is between them. On the surface, they might look similar, but there are some key distinctions that make them unique. In this blog post, we will explore these differences to help decide which method works best for a specific project. What Is Die Cutting? Die cutting is a process that uses a die (a sharp metal plate which looks like a cookie cutter) to cut out shapes from a variety of materials such as rubber, silicone, plastic, foam, and more. It’s typically done with a press-type machine that uses pressure to cut the material into the die’s shape. One of the key advantages of die cutting is that it can create multiple intricate shapes at the same time with precision and accuracy. This makes it ideal for quickly creating large quantities of customized components and uniform parts. What Is Kiss Cutting? Kiss cutting is a type of cut, rather than a specific process. Kiss cutting generally involves a die or blade, but a laser may also be used. The main difference is in the depth of the cut. Whereas die cutting typically goes through the entire material from top to bottom, kiss cutting only cuts through part of the material’s thickness (usually just the face). With kiss cutting, you can create intricate designs that allow for folding, perforating, or selectively removing adhesive without having to worry about compromising structural integrity (as you would with full-depth cuts). It is often used for making labels, stickers, decals, and nameplates, but is also frequently used for parts that need to rigidly wrap or fold around three-dimensional surfaces, rather than lying flat. Another application for kiss cutting is for the easy removal of adhesive parts from their liner. Rather than struggling to peel the backing off something sticky, kiss-cutting allows for the backing to be larger than the part itself, allowing for clean and easy removal of parts, making quality control and part application much faster, cleaner, and more accurate. In conclusion, whether you need die cutting or kiss cutting services depends on your unique project requirements. Die cutting is best suited for high-volume applications where cost savings are paramount; while kiss cutting provides more flexibility when it comes to design complexity and allows for more precise control over tolerances. By understanding the differences between these two cuts, you can make an informed decision about which one is right for your project. New! Custom 3D Printing Service

Recently, Quality Industrial Products’ Squint division has celebrated the addition of a new manufacturing and prototyping capability. Our new Design and Additive Manufacturing department is open for small production runs or light prototyping orders, with further expansion planned. Additive Manufacturing, or 3D Printing as it is more commonly known, is the process of producing physical items by slicing them into 2D cross sections and printing them in layers. Here at Quality Industrial, our FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) printing capabilities utilize various thin filaments that are then melted and extruded in order to precisely manufacture physical items. We have the capability to print singular objects up to 235x235x270mm in a variety of materials including PLA, PETG, TPU, and various other specialized filaments such as food-safe PET. Direct-drive extruders enable the highest quality of extremely flexible prints, with materials as soft as Shore 75A. We have nozzles as small as .2mm and as large as .6 for faster prints while retaining print quality. These nozzles can be heated up to 300°C to enable the printing of complex engineering materials, and we can hold tolerances of up to +/-.1mm. Please contact our Additive Manufacturing department today to learn more about our processes and capabilities. (602) 861-2930 [email protected]

Unlock the Many Benefits of Die Cutting Custom Products

Die cutting is a cost-effective and efficient way to create custom products that are both precise and consistent. It is used in many industries, from electronics and automotive to medical and aerospace, for fabricating parts with exacting specifications. Here are 5-benefits of die cutting custom products that engineers, product developers, as well as product designers should consider. Precision – Die cutting offers a high degree of precision and accuracy when making complex components. This precision ensures that each component of your product is the same size, shape, and thickness as its predecessor. This consistency can save time and money during the production process since there’s no need to measure or adjust each piece individually. Variety – With die cutting, you can cut components out of a wide range of materials including plastic, foam, leather, rubber, paperboard, and more. The shape of the part can be further customized by changing the die design which works perfectly when new revisions are approved. This flexibility makes it easy to create unique components that are tailored to your specific needs. Cost-Effective – Die cutting offers a cost-effective solution for mass production since it requires minimal setup time and labor costs compared to other methods such as milling or machining processes. Additionally, die cutting eliminates excess material waste because it only cuts out what you need for each component; this means less scrap material left over at the end of production runs which translates into savings on material costs in the long run. Durability – When properly designed and executed, die cut parts are strong and durable since they’re made from solid pieces rather than multiple layers or components welded together as with other fabrication methods such as injection molding or 3D printing. This makes them ideal for applications where strength is key such as automotive or aerospace components where safety is paramount. Speed – The speed at which die cut parts can be produced depends largely on the complexity of the part but it’s much faster than traditional machining techniques because there’s no need to manually measure or adjust each piece before cutting begins; once the machine is set up you simply feed in raw materials until all parts have been cut out according to specification–all within minutes! Die cutting offers an array of benefits including precision, variety, cost-efficiency, durability, and speed when producing custom products. Its ability to quickly produce high-quality parts with exacting specifications make it an attractive option for mass production operations across many different industries. With careful attention paid to material selection and design considerations engineers can use die cutting technology confidently knowing they will be able get their project done quickly without sacrificing quality or performance! Quality Times Spring 2023 Edition // Latest News and Updates!

March & April 2023 QUALITY TIMES Spring 2023 Edition 3-Advantages of Precision Laser Cutting Whether you are an engineer, product developer, or designer you’re always looking for the best and most efficient way to create custom components. One of the technologies that have become increasingly popular in recent years is laser cutting. This process combines precision with speed and offers a variety of advantages over traditional methods. In this article, we’ll explore three of the key advantages of laser cutting custom products. 1-Accuracy Laser cutting is incredibly precise—it can achieve tolerances as low as 0.001 inches! This means that your products will be crafted with exacting detail and accuracy, ensuring that even the smallest and most complex parts will come out clean and consistent. The precision of the laser also allows for less material waste, and the benefit of features like kiss-cutting and score lines that other production methods may not be able to keep reliably consistent. 2-Rapid Prototyping Lasers can produce a functional part from a drawing within minutes, requiring substantially less setup time. Changes and modifications to the drawing and part can be tweaked and modified as necessary to make the part perfect without the need to order new equipment. This reduces wait times and lead times on your projects, allowing you to get them done more quickly than ever before. 3-Cost Savings The cost savings associated with laser cutting come from several factors: increased accuracy, reduced material waste, decreased labor costs, and shorter setup times due to its automated and consistent nature. All these benefits add up to a significant reduction in overall production costs when compared with other methods, saving time and money both with the production of the part itself, and time saved in your company’s own assembly or production lines. If you’re ready to take advantage of all that laser cutting has to offer your business today, then contact us here at Quality Industrial Products, Inc. for more information about our services!
